My research focus is on outcome measurement, prognosis and treatment in rheumatic diseases, notably Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Gout and Systemic Sclerosis. Hallmark of these diseases is that they are diseases of the syndrome-type, which poses difficulties on diagnosis, measurement and prognostication. Also, these diseases cannot be cured yet.
In the end my research leads to improved prognostication and treatment for patients with rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis, gout or systemic sclerosis, for use in individual patients (‘personalized medicine’).
